Wanda Jackson on Mountain Stage

Some clips from Wanda Jackson's appearance last summer on Mountain Stage. She also discusses how Elvis Presley convinced her to switch from County to Rock & Roll. Complete audio of the concert available here.

Cowboy Yodel

I have to guess that Wanda Jackson is the only member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame who could ever yodel like this. I am almost mesmerized by this.

"Cowboy Yodel"

Now in her Seventies, Jackson is still yodeling away, as you can see in this video from 2009

Wanda Jackson & Jack White

I did a previous post on Wanda Jackson to recognize that she had finally be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. That post contains a video of my favorite Wanda Jackson song, "Hard Headed Woman".

At 73, she has just released a new album called
The Party Ain't Over. The album was produced by Jack White. These videos are all songs off that album.

"Thunder on the Mountain"

"Shakin' All Over"

Wanda Jackson

Before the year ends I want to do a post to recognize that in 2009 Wanda Jackson—the "Sweet Lady with the Nasty Voice"—was finally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. There has been a campaign over the last couple years, led by Elvis Costello, to see that she made it in, and it has finally happened.

The first female rockabilly star, here is my favorite Wanda Jackson song, "Hard Headed Woman".

Another early recording of "Sparklin' Brown Eyes".

A performance from 2008 of "Whole Lot a Shakin' Goin' On" and "Let's Have a Party".

For good measure, here is a short documentary where she describes her first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry.
