Autumn

I previously posted a version of Paolo Nutini's "Autumn" including video of fall leaves. Like "Autumn Leaves" last week, this is another song that I just have to post again. Here is a live version of Nutini singing his tribute to his grandfather.

In the Air

Kasey Chambers performs part of the old Phil Collins song "In the Air" with an Indian flavor.

"The Roof is Leaking" is my favorite Phil Collins song. I don't know why no one ever covers it. I would like to hear Paolo Nutini sing it.

Laying Around

Considering that it is Saturday, and way too hot to go outside, here are a couple songs about laying around. This first song was a big hit a couple years ago, but I just recently became familiar with it from the soundtrack of the Unknown Warrior film I posted a couple weeks ago.

"Chasing Cars" - Snow Patrol

"Last Request" - Paulo Nutini

"I Should Get Up" - Teddy Thompson

Autumn Leaves

I have missed the beginning of autumn by a couple days, and last Friday felt too much like summer in hell for a fall day. Still I am going to do this post to mark the change in seasons. This is a beautiful song that Paolo Nutini wrote about his grandfather. There are several live videos of it available, but it is difficult to get a good version of such a quiet song on a live recording, so here is the track from the album with fall pictures.

Trouble So Hard

I was going to include this video of "Trouble So Hard" in the post I did on Paolo Nutini earlier this month. But then I decided that the song deserved a separate post. I like Nutini's reggae take on this blues song.

This song goes back to a recording by Vera Hall (1902-1964). It was made for the Library of Congress during the 30's or 40's as part of a project to document musical style around the United States.

The song came to prominence in 1999 when Moby sampled the song as part of his recording "Natural Blues". In Moby's recording Hall's original vocals were used, but here is a video of him performing it with Jill Scott and the Blue Man Group.

Paolo Nutini

Paolo Nutini, from Scotland, has released two album that I have listened to a lot.

From his first album, These Streets, here is "Last Request".

From his second album, Sunny Side Up, here is "Candy".

For the fun of it, here he duets with Petula Clark on "Going to Chicago Blues".
