Today Darlene Love turns 75. Here she is earlier this year performing "He's A Rebel", a song she recorded for Phil Spector over 50 years ago.

The Night Time Is The Right Time
This looks like sometime in the 1960's. The Righteous Brother and The Blossoms performing "The Night Time Is The Right Time" on the TV show Shindig.

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Even though the tradition ended last year, I still can't give it up. So here is Darlene Love's first performance of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" on The Letterman Show in 1986. Not quite the lavish production it became in later years.

The End of an Era
Last night was the end of my favorite Christmas tradition, Darlene Love's annual performance of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" on The David Letterman Show. I wonder if Phil Spector gets to watch this in jail?

My Favorite Christmas Tradition
My favorite Christmas tradition is Darlene Love's annual appearance on the David Letterman Show to perform "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original release of Love's recording of this song on the album A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector. After 50 years she is still kickin' it.
Here is her performance from last week.

Darlene Love
I am going to do a series of posts this week focused on women that are featured in the new film Twenty Feet from Stardom. Today we have Darlene Love. The first clip is Love on Letterman recently discussing the film and her career.
Originally recorded in the early 60's, "A Fine Fine Boy" performed recently with Bruce Springsteen.
Love performs here with her original group, the Blossoms, and Tom Jones, a 1971 recording of "River Deep, Mountain High".

Christmas with Darlene Love
I posted one of Darlene Love's annual Letterman Christmas appearances last in Christmas 2009 - Pt 2. This year Love gets an entire post to herself to acknowledge that she has just been named one of the 2011 inductees into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. A much deserve honor!!!!
From Home Alone 2, Love and the E Street Band - "All Alone on Christmas"
Love has been associated with Christmas since 1963, when she appeared as one of the performers on Phil Spector's album A Christmas Gift for You from Philles Records. Here is one of Love's tracks from that album, "Marshmallow World".
Last year's Letterman appearance. I can only hope that I have held up this well when I am in my 70's, actually I hope to have held up this well when I am in my 60's.

Christmas 2009 - Pt 2
Eartha Kitt died on Christmas Day 2008. Fortunately, we still have this classic Christmas song, "Santa Baby".
A video that goes back a few years. From 1960, Patsy Cline and Ferlin Husky singing "Let It Snow".
One of my favorite Christmas traditions is Darlene Love's appearance on the David Letterman Show every year to perform "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". She first recorded this song over 45 years ago for the album "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector". It is still a treat to hear her sing it every year. This years performance is scheduled for broadcast tonight. The video here is from last year.
