Is That All There Is?

Peggy Lee performing "Is That All There Is?", according to Donald Trump: "That’s a great song actually, that’s a very interesting song". So at least his taste in music isn't all bad, and the song would pretty much seem to sum up his life.

Why Don't You Do Right?

I found this this great version of "Why Don't You Do Right" performed by the Carolina Chocolate Drops, with vocals by Rhiannon Giddens and a guy that makes a trumpet sound with just his mouth. For good measure I am also including Jessica Rabbit's version of the song, followed by Peggy Lee's 1942 version of the song with the Benny Goodman Orchestra.

Jerry Leiber (1933-2011)

A post to mark the passing Monday of lyricist Jerry Leiber. With music composer Mike Stoller, he was half of one of the most successful songwriting duos in the middle part of the 20th Century.

My 10/1/10 post contained what was their first big hits, Big Mama Thornton's original recording of "Hound Dog". Below are a couple more songs by Leiber and Stoller.

Elvis Presley later had a big hit with "Hound Dog", so, to give Elvis his due, here is his version of "Jailhouse Rock"
