Pale Blue Eyes

Elizabeth Cook performs the Velvet Underground's song "Pale Blue Eyes" on the Grand Ole Opry, and dedicates it to her friend David Letterman. This may not be the first time a Velvet Underground song has been performed on the Opry, but it is surely a rare occurrence.

Rank Strangers

To mark Ralph Stanley's receipt of an Honorary Doctorate from Yale yesterday, here Stanley performs "Rank Strangers" with his grandson, Nathan Stanley. I thought this song was written by Ralph's brother Carter, but in fact it was written by Albert E. Brumley. It was, however, recorded by the Stanley Brothers about 60 years ago.

Following the family tradition set by her grandfather and father—Hank, Sr. and Hank, Jr.— Holly Williams performs her song "The Highway" at the Grand Ole Opry. It was announced this week that she is having a baby in the fall, so maybe there will be a fourth generation to look forward to.

Tessanne Chin

OK, since I don't watch TV and don't keep up on these thing, I am months behind on this. Several years ago I somehow run onto the "Hide Away" video by a Jamaican singer I had never heard of, Tessanne Chin. I was blown away by this women's voice, but did not post the video because I prefer to post live performances, instead of acted videos. Several times I have gone back to see if she had anything new, but obviously have not done this for probably about a year. So yesterday I finally find out that this woman won last year's edition of The Voice. She certainly deserves every honor she gets. Here is the original "Hide Away" video, and her performances of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Redemption Song" from The Voice.
