A post to mark the passing of songwriter Curly Putman. Included in his many successful songs is Dolly Parton's first hit, "Dumb Blondes", which she performed earlier this month at the Country Music Hall of Fame 2016 Medallion Ceremony with a shout out to Curly.

Billy Sherrill (1936-2015)
A post to mark the passing last week of songwriter and record producer Billy Sherrill. Among other credits, he co-wrote "Stand By Your Man" with Tammy Wynette. He also produced "He Stopped Loving Her Today" for George Jones, and The Staple Singers album "Freedom Highway".

Only Lies

Another blog post prompted by NPR's 50 Greatest voices series. Today's segment was on country singer George Jones. Now 79, Jones' career has spanned over half a century. Here is some video.

Songs About Drinking
No Depression posted the first video below on Facebook, and it inspired me to do a post of songs about drinking. I have previously posted three of the best songs about drinking, or not drinking as the case may be—Great Big Sea's "The Old Black Rum", Corb Lund's "Time to Switch to Whiskey" and Elizabeth Cook's "Yes to Booty". So here are a couple more.
